its a very melodic smooth kind of record
jeffrey wrote the music
i came up with the vox
we make a good team
jeffrey writes tricky chord progressions
at once familiar yet with a sense of the strange
it inspires me to come up with words i wouldnt normally
have come up with...
hes renting a flat here in bondi n we can 'ave a winter swim n a sauna
n get stuck into our work
jeffrey is an impish alabaman with a wicked laugh n kind heart
like martin kennedy and ricky maymi hes much younger than me
and was inspired in his teen years by the church among others
hes absorbed his sk musical lessons well
and thoroughly transmuted them into his own lovely trip
we will both be mourning the loss of gregory slay isidores drummer
who died on new years eve tragically too young
mr slays radiant and mischievous spirit
will illuminate proceedings i'm sure....
the first isidore record heralded a new era for my singing n words
i turned some corner in making it
finding new ways to sing
new types of words to write
i am lucky to have collaborateurs such as jc n these other guys
so you got gb3 coming real soon (its a corker...mixed by jorden brebach too!)
then kk2
then hopefully i can get david neil finally fixed n mixed (thats with ricky)
then isidore2 which i know will be a special record
melbournian fiendss can look for me next week
although i cant necessarily spill the beans on what it is i'm doing
as i am merely one of a number of special secret guests at 2 shows there
(at the palais....)
yep i'm pretty busy
and thats how i like it

This is a great time to be a huge fan of Steve Kilbey and The Church.
I'm enjoying my Kilbey box set immensely. Also looking forward to another K/K release, but I'm especially excited about a new Isidore record.
All of this wonderful new music, and I'm still completely hooked on Painkiller and Untitled # 23.

With Isidore you and Jeffrey broke de mold. It has become a standard and a landmark magnum opus. Definitely one of the top Kilbey's (The Church included) releases ever.
Isidore is one of my favorites so I'm glad to hear this news. "Refused on Temple Street" is in my top 10 best SK songs ever, it is stunningly beautiful.
I love Isidore! The first one is such a great album. The day presales for it at KH started (I think it was that day) I was in Antenna and who should drop in but JC. He had a nick and didn't say who he was though. I was telling him (and anyone who happened to pop in) how great the album was going to be... I think I tried to persuade him to order it. He must have laughed his ass off at that! lol! But as we chatted it dawned on me that he wasn't just some other fan...this guy knew a whole lot about Isidore. It was so cool and he was so nice. I remember it fondly. And this year, after the Atlanta church show I got to meet JC in person! One of the (many) highlights of that day for me. :-)

The first Isidore album is utterly addictive. To me it ranks with the top five Church CDs. Sk's vocals are wonderful throughout the CD.
Isidore 1 is really cool. I listen to it a lot.

that's funny, T and I were just talking about Isidore last night (cause you'd mentioned k/k deux). i was saying to her how that was the album when you first started really stretching and pushing yer voice, how it marked a cool turning point and sparked off so many of the developments in your sound since that time. isidore is a strange and cool album - odd chords, brilliant lyrics, an unexpected journey. very different from the velvety smoothness and gentle melancholy of k/k 1. that's the great thing about these collaborations you're doing. each one shows that intangible vision from a slightly different angle. those worlds between worlds can never be directly described, but by painting the picture from many different angles, it can be felt.
can't wait to hear all this new stuff!
and what of the church? new album in the works??
SK your box set is super cool. Endless debate about it on Hotel Womb site, re: will Painkiller "fit?" Will the extra space afforded by the "bow" in the box allow one to store their toothbrush 'n razor? Who gives a shit! Excellent collection of music 'n insightful new line er notez. KK2, DVD, I2--lookin forward to all.

The vocals are amongst your best.
I only got onto Isidore 1 this year and it has been on constant play. Certainly one of your absolute best (Solo AND Church!!!!) - SO many great songs - Musidora, Sanskrit, One for Iris Doe etc etc ETC! Really can't wait for the next one. Any chance of a secret gig to road test Isidore 2 at the Heritage in Bulli??????
