working on the martin kennedy record
3 new tracks he sends up
i hear the 1 st track
i say to jlk
thats it
5 minutes later
i have words n melody
about lions laying down with lambs
when we realise the connection
when all opposites are reconciled
all in a catchy melody with rhymin' words
and everythin'...
scarlet kilbey
aka the bumper
aka the woofle
sits on my lapp
helping me drink my soy n rice milk smoothie
w/ banana n dates n flaxseed oil
dad dad dad she goes when she wants some
bye bye she says when the smoothie is gone
im painting like a demon
just making up for lost time
i guess
all those years i didnt paint
like rousseau who became a painter
when he was even older than me
he single handedly (well almost)
founded the naive school
also called the sunday painters
i think ive detoured from naive now
im something else
post naive
neo naive
impressionistic futurist naive
hmmm
i might do a cardboard box for bonzo
oh no
its recycling day
and the garbos took my masterpiece away
maybe you can still find it on the back o' the truck
its a rococco box with imagist binklebonks
its mans basic inhumanity to man
in a cardboard sculpture
it expresses the ineffable bifflehonk of my grondleworth
the rain drizzles on n on
aurora left the back window of the falcon open
and the car has a nasty damp smell
the sun ventures out for a few minutes
and then pisses off back behind the clouds
everything is soggy and waterlogged
the sandy loamy soil
the weeds n plants
the papers on the ground
the ants dash to n fro
could be expecting a kev carmody concerto at oprah house
early nexta yeer
snap back jack
these images of london
these illusions
oh im looking forward to that
and the queensland po fest
wherein i will do 2 lenny cohen songs
suzanne is one...
no thats a song for me to do
cant decide on the other one tho
everybody knows maybe.....
i dunno
any suggestions fiendss
im also gonna be reading the whole of froot machine
in one crazy burst
and talking about songwriting...
im a bittav anexxpert they say
but the problem remains
that i cant communicate it so well
and besides
if you were really had the knack
you wouldnt need to listen to some other olde tossa
like moi
pontificating on n on
youd just bloody well do it
or what?
nonetheless i will try to impart the meagre knowledge i have
as hard as it maybe
because it aint a technique
its a religion
its a vocation
im still thinking about songwriting
im still analyzing n deconstructing songs in my head
im still in love with music
and i still think the composer is numero uno
lyrics
music
melody
put em together whatta ya got...?
magic.....
or
rubbish
or something in between
rubbic?
magish?
why do i love hearin one guy going on
how is little baby left im
and im singing along and involved
another guy does the same
and i run screaming away in embarrassment
just cos of some strange way he pronounces his words
or the reverb on his voice
its all communicating something
only my deep mind can unravel and interpret
just got intermission
by grant n robert
their pick of their own solo work
a dubble cd
boy those guys hadda individual take on writing
forster a weird mix of awkward glamourous and facetious
grantley...warm romantic honest and yes, naive
put em together and who woulda thought it coulda worked so well
i liked lindys drumming actually
tho she aint to be heard here
and amanda brown n i wrote a song a cuppla years back
i see shes registered it now
and i hope it gets used in a movie
cos it was very nice
i guess thats enough for today
and i hope the worlds treating you well
hope all the sickies get better
all the lonely ones find someone
all the ones who wanna get out can get out
and all those who have stuck by me
and believed in me are not disappointed
hey melquiades
if you write blah blah blah
again
im gonna find you on a beach in delaware
and give you a good hiding!
dude you look like you been eating beast on a skewer!
yuck!!!

Morning Steve

Steve...greetings from a cold and grey Melbourne....we sure could do with some of your rain if you can spare a little.
i like the bit about "ants dash to and fro"...nice sense of detail that I often miss, but sometimes capture. The best thing about being a kid was watching bugs/insects in the garden. I was at their level and could see their world...sometimes now I can't even see my own world. I am working on this though...slowly it's coming back.
no disappointment here sk.....burying yourself in you work i see.... good thing it's something you love doing...
take care, dean
Growing up in Brisbane I couldn't at all get into the Go Bee's. Cultural cringe perhaps but the last thing i wanted to hear at that time was the Brisbane sound. God even typing the B word still makes me cringe. Growing up under Joh I wanted verses from other universes. Eno,Bowie,Japan and a lota pretentious electronic stuff was my tonic for the times. To me the Go Bee's were a bunch of brizzo's that couldn't play. Just lately however i've heard a bit of Go Bee's on rage and I guess I should re evaluate my position. Yeah Lindys drumming was kinda unique and i can now hear they were much greater than the sum of there part's. I doubt i'll ever want to listen to a ex Go Bee solo record but i'd like to give a Go Bee record a spin. Any recomendations ? Must have Lindy drumming on it.
ha, ha, ha. touche'.
blahjee, blahjee, blah....
was painting with Morgen this morning........we have decided{together,in fits o laughter} that the new name for "electric blue",is cookie monster blue"It is proclaimed that.....today is "International Cookie Monster Day".....AND FOREVER SHALL IT REMAIN THAT WAY !!!!!.....mmmmmm"Everybody knows" ,ya,that would be great!......I know, that if you needed audience participation, youd have at least one with her hand up.......have you ever heard the "Concrete Blonde" version? .......used to do a similar rendition{well still do but}.....such a powerful song....love to you and your gals....genx xxxxxxx
nice warm blog. just what i needed.
just like every new song..........you voice just helps me transcend.

by the way, leonard cohen suggestion: Last Year's Man
meat retreat
Am i the killer mocking bird?
Sorry for my ignorance but wasnt Halleluyah a Leonard Cohen song - if so - do that one.
Dutch Pierre
write a song about the killin of beasts fer food or sumting...bout time..
"Halleluliah"....oh crap...howja spell it?....mmmmm....it might be more mainstream, and that could be more of a "connector".......besides ,with Mr Buckley doin it,and "Shrek"soundtrackand all...shoot me for saying this but remember ....this is still a "Big country town"?.......love,genx xxxxxxx
flaxseed oil - you're on to something there.
If you haven't already,
Dr. Johanna Budwig research is worth a look.
Hi Steve,
What about "So long Mary-anne" (i think that's what it's called?)for your Leonard Cohen thing? I know 'Straight Jacket Fits' did a great version of it years ago and i reckon yours would be great too...:)
Cheers,
Jon from Geelong
Hey I forgot to suggest a Leonard Cohen song for ya.
Personaly i think Leonard Cohen cover nights can be a bit dour and humorless.
To lighten to mood perhaps you could combine Leonard's 'Famous Blue Raincoat' with the Leo Sayer's 'When I Need Love'.
I'd say Leo Sayer ripped off the chords and melody for 'When I Need Love' from 'Famous Blue Raincoat' as there very very similar.
I seem to be good at picking up this sort of stuff. I should get into mash ups.
Famous Blue Raincoat is the obvious choice, although I really like Teachers - so dark and ominous, and only two chords - but you can wig around the picking, comes up a treat. I'm sure you can fuck it up real good Steve.
Isn't it time that
"we began
to laugh
and cry
and laugh
about it
all again" ?
I can sortta see you doing a croaky, jaded-voiced whisper into the mic of "Who By Fire ?" (you might need a cellist though)
Verdelay - anything witty today ?
Davy Jones - that was quite an intriguing little story you posted yesterday.
moving forward now people...
Altres - also v.funny recipes yesterday. Beat me to the punchline and took the words right out of my mouth...(yars, I do love a good cliche)
*something i've been wanting to ask you*
we saw the hob tour in cincinnati......ms frith opened.....i had heard of her but never actually heard her
she was terrific and so were you guys..... in fact, afterward, we both agreed that it was the best concert we had ever attended (even to this day).....and we've seen alot of artists perform
so i was wondering...... how did you two get along? i would assume very well......but i've been wrong in assuming before
she seems very down-to-earth and all out-in-space at the same time......from what i've heard (gossip monger that i am!) she's seem to have led a very interesting life......i mean, bermuda on a boat.......how groovy is that!! and the lady can also sure turn a phrase
i know you may not answer......but i thought i'd ask anyway......any thoughts?
"and the queensland po fest
wherein i will do 2 lenny cohen songs
suzanne is one...
no thats a song for me to do
cant decide on the other one tho
everybody knows maybe....."
i was listening to jeff buckley's version of hallelujah as these words passed my eyes!
re SK's post the other day....meat eating is as much a psychological addiction as it is a power thing
(killing and eating something is the ultimate expression of domination borne of fear)
try substituting vegie food that looks like meat...tricking the subconscious mind can help overcome part of the addictive pull
check out sites like the Australian Eatwell site for examples
another addiction we have is to oil
if we don't address this, what we eat could be the least of our problems
From - crude awakening
“Market forces will undoubtedly exert strong signals, but are unlikely to be able to prevent abrupt dislocations without powerful accompanying strategies ruthlessly enforced in the face of vested interests. CIBC predicts that likely supply shortfall will be some 9m barrels per day by 2010 and that the oil price needed to reduce demand will be around $100 per barrel, and of course thereafter figures steadily rise further. But with oil prices at say $100-$150 per barrel, economies of heavily oil-dependent countries (the great majority in the world) will be forced into a tailspin of decline, leading to violent uprisings, revolutions and mass migration on a scale we have never seen.”
– Michael Meacher, former British Environment Minister
WHAT WE ALL CAN DO NOW
1. Reduce your personal oil consumption and conserve.
Use public transportation where available.
Downsize your vehicle, carpool and rideshare, ride a bike, or walk.
Purchase items made locally instead of from afar. Support localization.
Plan trips to the store and errands so you aren’t hauling a 2-ton machine with you to the store every time you just want a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread,...or a six pack.
If you must drive somewhere, plan the timing to avoid heavy traffic and congestion.
Improve the insulation in your home to improve its efficiency.
Adjust your thermostat (warmer in summer and cooler in winter.) Try opening the windows and not using A/C for at least one or more days each week. Get a programmable thermostat.
Replace your light bulbs now with long-life compact fluorescents - For every incandescent bulb you replace with a compact florescent, over the life of that compact florescent bulb as compared to incandescent bulbs, you will have saved the energy equivalent of 500 pounds of coal.
Consider Austin Energy’s credits for installing solar panels or purchasing highly efficient appliances. Join the GreenChoice program as soon as possible.
Reduce your use of products made from oil (including plastics)
Reduce your use of electronic devices
Recycle and re-use plastic products
Design and build efficiently to minimize energy requirements
Use manual tools instead of power tools (including the lawnmower and weed eater and food processor.)
Minimize, or better yet eliminate debt. (See this article.) An economic crisis could cause lenders to call in loans, even if you have stellar credit and always pay on time. If other folks begin to default, the banks will need the cash to pay off their investors. The absolute worst thing anyone can do is to borrow to pay basic living expenses...like for groceries or gas.
2. Think Local Rather than Urban Sprawl
Minimize urban sprawl wherever possible
Lobby community leadership for walking communities by design
Move closer to work or work closer to home. Better yet, telecommute. Go ahead, ask your boss.
Purchase/utilize locally produced products and services. Support localization.
Support local development rather than urban sprawl
3. Get Involved
Educate yourself on the peak oil issue, and understand the implications
Educate yourself on how oil shortages will impact you and your community
Talk to others in your community about it – encourage a dialog
Get to know your neighbors – now.
Start a garden at home now, and learn to preserve food.
Identify wasteful behavior and be courageous enough to speak up about it
Pull people along with the idea of conservation rather than push it on them
Submit ideas to your local community leadership on ways to prepare for the post peak oil world, and then follow up and track what they are doing. Vote accordingly.
Lobby governments and community leaders to spend heavily now on renewable energy, public electricity-based mass transportation, and improving localized agricultural practices.
Lobby governments and community leaders now on reducing spending for more roads, urban sprawl and inefficient infrastructures, or dependence on long-distance consumption.
Utilize resources of all kinds sensibly, but especially energy.
Think about everything you do in relation to how your life will be affected after oil hits peak production.

LC suggs:
i can't forget
coming back to you
first we take manhattan
that's no way to say goodbye
that 'no more chocolates in our boxes' song.
lover lover lover
waiting for the miracle
don't do everybody knows... over done. suzanne is good... i've always liked the peter gabriel version; love how distressed his voice sounds, i like how it keeps growing throughout while feeling a bit apprehensive.... long envelopes and filtered loops....
don't do hallelujah.... it was in shreck for #$^@ sake, besides, i used to sing that one to my little one and it would confuse her. Rufus wainwright's version is tops though.
fuck it, do whichever. cohen is king.
Cohen:
"Hey, that's no way to say goodbye". is total Kilbey ! Do that one..
Arrange the tempo like Ian McCulloch in "I'm your fan", the LC cover album.
- Lebrinho

cool on the songs!! nice easy flow for the words and melody is true happiness, sk :)
supergrass is in the studio too. oh yeah!!!!
My dear fellow,
...and here's me thinking you didn't get it...!
All joking aside, my mangey friend, Joseph Beuys (the creator of the infamous box in Bilbao) rocked in the truest sense of the word. I could go on....but I won't, you've all heard my schtick before. You should check him out, he was a dude as much into performance, spiritualism and honey as your good self.
If you do you'll find that I'm right about the box. I always have been and I always will be.
Who says I'm not fucking flexible in my opinions...?
B.Bon
> cant decide on the other one tho
try Stories of the Street.
It has that sinister waltz-ey feeling, almost like a proto-Antenna or a proto-Angela-Carter. You'll feel at home in that song! And it s beautiful. Sing it in a slightly menacing way...
good day
St.
and i hope the worlds treating you well
hope that all the sickies get better
thank you,
I have been a bit under the weather
these words do make me feel better
you do care about those who believe in ya
giving it
daily
this day our daily blog
I am always sad to see anon attacks
surely you do not deserve
however I do enjoy zee vegan rants, and how good ya are for changing a few folks mind on this vital topic

We were flooded out last Friday, here in northern England.
A river that usually runs 2 metres below the level of the adjacent road, was actually 2ft above the road - entire place was flooded.
Some kid fell in the river, got swept away, hit his head on the bridge as it dragged hi under and was heading for a stretch that runs through fields - and the farmer's strung barbed wire across the river to stop his cows wading in n making a bid for freedom. If the kid had got caught on that, that wouuld've been it. But no - my brother waded chest-high into the raging fuckin torrent an dragged the kid out by brute strength! Saved his life for sure. brother to heroes, that's me.
No, no, no - everyone does Hallelujah. Go for something more esoteric, I sez. Such as? Erm...fucked if I know!
Issy,
Grube ? = Hölle ? = Dr. Faust ?

The Butcher
I came upon a butcher,
He was slaughtering a lamb,
I accused him there
With his tortured lamb.
He said, "listen to me, child,
I am what i am and you, you are my only son."
Well, i found a silver needle,
I put it into my arm.
It did some good,
Did some harm.
But the nights were cold
And it almost kept me warm,
How come the night is long?
I saw some flowers growing up
Where that lamb fell down;
Was i supposed to praise my lord,
Make some kind of joyful sound?
He said, "listen, listen to me now,
I go round and round
And you, you are my only child."
Do not leave me now,
Do not leave me now,
I'm broken down
From a recent fall.
Blood upon my body
And ice upon my soul,
Lead on, my son, it is your world.
Still sticking by ya. Been laying low the past couple days. Stormy weather out there in the blogosphere. Spent some time procrastinating yesterday and worked on my homebrewed remaster of "Gold Afternoon Fix" to put on my iPod. "Grind" merits continuous replay; the new acoustic version is even more remarkable. It has that magical alchemy of melody and words that hits me in the emotional solar plexus.
Your words have give me, excuse the pun, food for thought. Questioning where our sustenance comes from is a novel idea for me. When I was a kid, it wasn't easy to get three squares a day when dad got laid off. Things got a bit tight and anxious. A lot of walking on eggshells in the household in those days. But I digress.
Removing the meat from the diet is the next logical step. I'm in the best shape of my life at 37 but prostate cancer flourishes in my dad's side (you know what I mean). There's some multiple sclerosis with my mother's side. I'm hoping that more veggies and tapering off the meat will improve my personal forecast. When I run, I feel like I'm running away from the inevitable.
I'd never seen those Sam Neill commercials. Wow. If that leering mug isn't a turnoff for meat consumption, then I don't know what is.

A "cable TV radio" (getting ultrapostmodern huh) here in Bra-sil played Reptile, Myrrh, CHROMIUM (now that was really really odd) and well, Milky Way on a couple of days. The dial is divided between "70's", "80's", "ballads", "contemporary jazz" blah blah whatever labels you can imagine. The Church plays at "rock" radio which is an "indie" radio actually because it also played Slowdive (When The Sun Hits), The Search (Through Walls of Ice - for God's sake check this band), Radio Berlin, Pop Will Eat Itself, House of Love (I like it and I like it), The Snake Corps (I didn't listen to the band but that one song, Strangers, is delicious), The Fixx, Echo and so many others unrevealed to the big masses. I wonder if this cable TV radio is an elite thing. I don't know... the person who runs it has good taste and BALLS to say the least. No Guns n' Roses yet.
Ah, Cohen song: Pennyroyal Tea by Nirvana ("give me a Leonard Cohen afterworld so I can sigh eternally"). No,no... First We Take Manhattan then we take Martini or something like that.
To veleska1970
I like what you write, seems to come from a real good space.

JB's Hallelujah
~
'Stories of the street' is on 'Songs of Leonard Cohen' as I recall.
Hallelujah has been reinterpreted definitively, I feel. No point.
My money is on 'Teachers', the song after 'Stories...'
I mean, how can you go past this lot...?
I met a woman long ago
her hair the black that black can go,
Are you a teacher of the heart?
Soft she answered no.
I met a girl across the sea,
her hair the gold that gold can be,
Are you a teacher of the heart?
Yes, but not for thee.
I met a man who lost his mind
in some lost place I had to find,
follow me the wise man said,
but he walked behind.
I walked into a hospital
where none was sick and none was well,
when at night the nurses left
I could not walk at all.
Morning came and then came noon,
dinner time a scalpel blade
lay beside my silver spoon.
Some girls wander by mistake
into the mess that scalpels make.
Are you the teachers of my heart?
We teach old hearts to break.
One morning I woke up alone,
the hospital and the nurses gone.
Have I carved enough my Lord?
Child, you are a bone.
I ate and ate and ate,
no I did not miss a plate, well
How much do these suppers cost?
We'll take it out in hate.
I spent my hatred everyplace,
on every work on every face,
someone gave me wishes
and I wished for an embrace.
Several girls embraced me, then
I was embraced by men,
Is my passion perfect?
No, do it once again.
I was handsome I was strong,
I knew the words of every song.
Did my singing please you?
No, the words you sang were wrong.
Who is it whom I address,
who takes down what I confess?
Are you the teachers of my heart?
We teach old hearts to rest.
Oh teachers are my lessons done?
I cannot do another one.
They laughed and laughed and said, Well child,
are your lessons done?
are your lessons done?
are your lessons done?
It would be well served by a beatniky velvets treatment that avoids the finicky spanish pickery that Cohen gives it. Something more bass-ic
'Dress rehearsal rag' ('Songs of Love and Hate') would also be a fine choice, but it's a bit doom-laden.
Yeah, 'The butcher' ('Songs from a room') would also be fairly stress-free to learn, and you could inflect it well. Good thematic choice.
If you wanted something solemn and beautiful, might I also suggest 'Night Comes On' from 'Various Positions'. I've never heard a better song about detachment. DETACHMENT, ferchrissakes!
I went down to the place
Where I knew she lay waiting
Under the marble and the snow
I said, Mother I'm frightened
The thunder and the lightning
I'll never come through this alone
She said, I'll be with you
My shawl wrapped around you
My hand on your head when you go
And the night came on
It was very calm
I wanted the night to go on and on
But she said, Go back to the World
We were fighting in Egypt
When they signed this agreement
That nobody else had to die
There was this terrible sound
And my father went down
With a terrible wound in his side
He said, Try to go on
Take my books, take my gun
Remember, my son, how they lied
And the night comes on
It's very calm
I'd like to pretend that my father was wrong
But you don't want to lie, not to the young
We were locked in this kitchen
I took to religion
And I wondered how long she would stay
I needed so much
To have nothing to touch
I've always been greedy that way
But my son and my daughter
Climbed out of the water
Crying, Papa, you promised to play
And they lead me away
To the great surprise
It's Papa, don't peek, Papa, cover your eyes
And they hide, they hide in the World
Now I look for her always
I'm lost in this calling
I'm tied to the threads of some prayer
Saying, When will she summon me
When will she come to me
What must I do to prepare
When she bends to my longing
Like a willow, like a fountain
She stands in the luminous air
And the night comes on
And it's very calm
I lie in her arms and says, When I'm gone
I'll be yours, yours for a song
Now the crickets are singing
The vesper bells ringing
The cat's curled asleep in his chair
I'll go down to Bill's Bar
I can make it that far
And I'll see if my friends are still there
Yes, and here's to the few
Who forgive what you do
And the fewer who don't even care
And the night comes on
It's very calm
I want to cross over, I want to go home
But she says, Go back, go back to the World
the box is mystical in the rite circles!
Daniel
Your Go-Betweens record should be "Liberty Belle and the Black Diamond Express" if only for Apology Accepted at the end. Don't get one of those bloody 'extended bonus disc CDs'. Apology...should be at the end the END. Of a relationship/record.
(Is my wit up to par, today, my dear malcolm powder?)
so glad you're doing "suzanne". i can see you owning that song.
suggestions:
"hey, that's no way to say goodbye" or "who by fire". i hear that velvety voice of yours doing justice to those two.
been to a few deleware beaches. lovely spot to find birds. met a friendly clapper rail there a few years back. say hi to him for me if you cross his path.
Suzanne - good choice; classic Cohen. Looking forward to the new album. Grantley - naive is OK, as long as it's genuine.
Finally, some rain here - enjoyed the sudden voltage in the night, rumbling of thunder, raindrops on the roof. Soothing. Dry earth, parched forest crying out in agonized thirst.

John Garratt
My fellow art lovers and box fanciers,
I'm not a practicing artist so my detachment from the various mediums may be evident....and is indeed to my sorrow as I would have loved to have been able to create (in any medium) and have the power to involve or invoke; to move or shock the viewer; to elicit a response. I have enormous respect for the bravery of artists and always try to look with an open mind. I'm prepared to accept that I see stuff other people don't. A box is not always a box to me. I love a lot of the stuff others hate or can see no value in - Pop Art (which also featured the odd box), Pollock, the Fluxus movement, Rothko, Rauschenberg and many, many more that are dismissed regularly. I do know a little about a lot of art movements so I guess I get more out of trip to the art gallery than many might. I do not think I am a snob about it, but I don't know why I go on about it, except to say that I do have a rather over-developed sense of loyalty somehow....and I never back down. I do go in to bat for what I believe in, it seems.
Discussions over the stylistic worth and merits of the many and varied visual arts have been going on forever, and this has just been another of them! I'm not going to give an art history lecture on the box so you can all breath out now. All are entitled to an opinion - thats what makes so engaging.
I feel that the box may be somewhat out of your ouvre, monsieur, and not in keeping with your salient themes. A visual discourse on the storm, perhaps? I'm sure you need no prompting on subjects though...
Good night then.

Side note: you're #4 with a bullet on BlogRankers, just below "The Modern Vikingette."
Don't know where "My Bottom Smarts" girl went; maybe thats the other ranking site.
Re: L. Cohen...I'd say try "Seems So Long Ago, Nancy", "You Know Who I Am", "Take This Longing", "The Guests", or "A Thousand Kisses Deep". I love "Suzanne" and "Hallelujah", but I think those have been pretty well defined by L.C. and Buckley, respectively.
I'd love to hear the results...

at last someone else rates Apology Accepted! I loved that from the instant I heard it but no, everyone else has to go with Cattle and Cane.
Bah on em!
Cheers, verd'!
thanks.

peace
great to hear about the upcoming shows and collaborations. would love to be down there for the poetry festival / cohen, that's certain to be sublime.
"just cos of some strange way he pronounces his words
or the reverb on his voice
its all communicating something"
yeah, i've always found the choich stuff to be like that. i guess that's what keeps me going back over and over. i've taken just 2 or 3 albums on a 3 to 4 month trip, listening to each once a day and never getting tired of them. it seems that with each listen some new layer will be revealed, some new meaning squeezed from the words, from an inflection, from a tone.
"if you write blah blah blah
again
im gonna find you on a beach in delaware
and give you a good hiding!"
YIKES! Make way for the bricklayer...

"lions lying down with lambs"
Can't wait to hear this song. Maybe the music will be more palatable for some of your tough-shelled anons. wink wink :)
As for the truly hungry, alternatives are being shown with good response. The poor are often the most adaptable.
Plenty’s Programs Bring Soy Production
to Underdeveloped Countries
Yeah...Cohen's Everybody Knows would be a good choice, but somewhat predictable one.
Consider "The Future" from the album of the same name. I can hear you doing that one.

here in Canada where we are proud of our native sons...Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Joni Mitchel and let me be the first to apologize for Celine Dion, Shania Twain and Micheal Buble.
The Lamb and the Lion being together is a passage in Isaiah (11:9) that envisions messianic times and a peaceful restoration of universal harmony and vegetarianism. Everybody needs to download "Nod Your Head" from McCartney's newest CD. It is as wild and good as any song on the White Album.
hmmmmm...methinks you are showing a slightly prosaic side today dear Rev/Delay

hey now 1.618.........don't be jackin' my golden mean......errr......well it's really not all mine i suppose....but it it it it was mine first!
(scene ends** sound of craig sulking in the corner)
is this better ?
For the po'fest I think I'd really like to hear you do Who By Fire (I'll even bravely offer myself as the female vox accompaniment - if ya wanted it that is - & the bravely part is coz I'm still a wee-bit scared of u)... or if ya wanted to toss in a L.Cohen poem, my fave is Beneath My Hands...
x
i think your voice is suited to any of L.C.'s songs but probably 'Famous Blue Raincoat' would be best,or even 'Dance me to the end of love' both give me goosebumps, and i'm still getting those regular after seeing the new Wembley Stadium get its first space-rocking at the weekend!! whichever songs you do,i hope someones going to film it so we get to see......
by the way, mattdavison,if you like MUSE, you should listen to a manchester band called Puressence, far and away the 2 greatest british bands at the moment,Puressence have got The Church/Stone Roses guitar style and although not quite as spacerock as The Church, they are,in my humble opinion, both in the same vein as the masters!
Methinks, "A Bunch of Lonesome Heroes," from Songs From A Room.
Good comic relief.
now that you mention that you're a contemporary impressionist...there's a present day movement. They often live and paint in the town of Giverney and throughout the world.
McCartney. I had dinner with a very important man recently. He owned a record company and produced such movies as 'Goya's Ghost' coming out this summer, 'One flew over the Cookoo's Nest', 'The English Patient', 'Amadeus'. Al said he'd hadn't heard a good thing that 'Sir Paul' did after the beatles. I hope you're right, brien cumberford.
Hi.
Will stick by you 'til the day I die. That isn't out of daft loyalty - it's cos you weave bloody magic!
You make life 20% better. You never, ever disappoint.
Thank-you.
"Chelsea Hotel" Now that's a great Leonard Cohen song worthy of an updated cover (Lloyd Cole did a nice version 15 years ago too.)
Jazz Police?
I'm thrilled to see news of the Martin Kennedy collaboration and of your painting spree. Looking forward to hear/see the results.
The bit about Scarlet and the smoothie made me smile. The bye bye when it was gone was particularly adorable. And the dates -- my mother loved dates, a particular kind of dates especially. She was always so pleased when I was able to find some of them for her. Thanks for triggering that memory.
Ill always stick to you
and never be disappointed

ah, everyones chilled out for a while,
deep breaths everybody,
oh, yeah, feel that working?
mmmm...so much better.....
.
Would Leonard Cohen's "Democracy" fit your bill?
It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
etc, etc...
Flaxseed all the way!
Everything else is bonus
re LC songs - here's my two bobs worth;
write a melody to an excerpt from beautiful losers and sing that....
hiya, greetings from Darwin. It's raining in the dry season, and almost chilly in the early mornings....niiiicccee.
some IT issues with blog; gotta sign up an account with google to have a name it seems, the new order
good vibes to all

...or perhaps "one of us cannot be wrong"....
I love this song about jealousy, it's as deliciously hilarious as "lepoard skin pillbox hat" by Bob, or "just get that straight" by G.W. McLennan.
I would use the word "true" rather than "naive"
Kitty Kat
Sorry, not a Google Blogger so I must appear as anonymus.
Cohen: It's been mentioned- 'That's No Way To Say Goodbye'. How about 'Tower of Song' or 'Closing Time'?
Still lurking,

wanna hear a 7 year old boys perspective?.....now this is REAL "naive,impressionistic,surrealism"......"Miss gen,if you had two heads.....your top head would be my pa!"......gee.....do ya think I love doin "art" with the little ones?......love to the chilli toes .....genx xxxxxxx
Yo anonymous 3:38 a.m. The very important man that you had dinner with is very "intellectually challenged" if he thinks McCartney has done NOTHING GOOD since the Beatles. Even McCartney critics including John Lennon liked The Band On The Run CD. However, I do concede that McCartney has squandered too much of his incredible talent on subpar music!
hmmm, I don't know now...I've got serious doubts...D~TX*
For those of you in the cooler climate.......thought you may like to try the following vegan recipes I created in the last day or two to warm yourselves up.
CAULIFLOWER SOUP
1 tablespoon oil
1 onion chopped
1 cauliflower chopped
2 medium potatoes chopped
approx 1 cup soya milk
approx 3 cups vegetable stock
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamon
salt and fresh ground black pepper
Fry onion till browning, then add the rest of the ingredients and simmer till cooked.Mash or blend with salt and fresh ground black pepper. If so inclined you could also add a small quantity of some flavoursome oil, healthy margarine or maybe even coconut cream.
WINTER BEAN SALAD
cooked kidney beans
cooked and cubed potatoes
cooked corn
chopped tomatoes
salt and pepper
virgin olive oil and vinegar of your choice to taste
Toss it all together and its done :)
Note:I used mini Roma tomatoes as there's been a good Autumn crop and the flavour is quite intense. The vinegar I used was white wine which worked alright but maybe another vinegar would suit better or could use fresh lemon juice instead.
Paul McCartney's last album Chaos and Creation is pretty amazing.. there is such an inimitable warmth to this album.. Im definitely looking forward to the new one...
jr...
"Memory Almost Full," not quite as good as "Chaos & Creation..."
John Garratt
You are correct John Garratt. "Memory Almost Full" is very good thanks to six quality songs. "Chaos and Creation" is for the most part consistently brilliant and it has some poignant, melancholic gems.
